Using Sounds and Music While Still Following Copyright Rules

This week’s class will focus on the importance of sound effects, narration, and music in computer games with proper use and citation of copyrighted materials.

Upon completion of this week’s webquest on the topic of copyrighted materials, and the rules governing public domain, you will complete the concluding quiz at http://www.mediafestival.org/quiz1.pdf and then proceed to this week’s assignment.

You will visit Library of Congress Memory Project, a website that contains copyright-friendly photographs. You will select a situation involving at least two people. You will create a short backstory for the situation and add sound effects and music to set the mood. All resources must be cited properly, and if copyrighted materials are used, you must submit a copy of the signed permission documents with your project. You may use the Finale software to create the music for the scene, and Microsoft Sound Recorder software to create several original Foley sound effects. The music and the sounds are then added to the slide content. You will present these slideshows to the class. Yu will display your clipart images in a series of at least five slides using PowerPoint. You will read the backstory, as the narrator with the sound effects and music embedded in the slides.
